Together with your friends you have found a 3D-printer based on Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and which has one extruder printhead.
Due to its processing technology the printer is printing support material from the very same material you have chosen for the product. This support material has to be cleaned off mechanically or it will permanently remain on the workpiece.
This means we have certain limitations compared with other additive processing techniques which we will have to consider in our proceedings.
Check on the advantages you found which can also be applied to this processing method.
